Ulcers are no laughing matter. In fact they are very painful matters and you should take them very seriously otherwise they could turn into a bleeding ulcer, which is not at all good. A lifestyle that includes smoking, high volumes of caffeine and alcohol consumption and stress also aggravate your tendency to get ulcers as well as irritating ulcers that are already there.

Ulcers have very clear symptoms that you should pay close attention to. You need to pick up and treat an ulcer as quickly as possible to prevent it from deteriorating into a bleeding ulcer. Nausea and vomiting are big symptoms of an ulcer. You may also lose your appetite and start losing weight. One must go through tests if suffering from these symptoms. A bleeding ulcer has a few distinct symptoms as well.

The bleeding will cause you to see blood in your stool and when you vomit. If there is blood in your stool, it will appear almost black. This is the most obvious sign of a bleeding ulcer. Treating an ulcer is your next step, once you know that you have one you need to find ways to treat it.

You may need to change your lifestyle and start on a bleeding ulcer diet if it is really bad. You may need to cut back on alcohol and caffeine and smoking, of course. And a fundamental change you will have to make is to reduce the stress in your life. Stress can seriously irritate an ulcer and cause it to become a bleeding ulcer.
