Your skin ages as you age. And there's nothing you can do about getting old. However there are a number of things that you can do that bear directly on the look of your skin. If you reverse these factors then your skin will show the benefits of this. And one of the most important things to reverse is excessive skin sun damage to improve your overall skin care.

Sunburn, or just too much time out in the sun, is just terrible to your skin. Along with smoking excessive exposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun can be one of the worst things you can do to ensure that you show your age faster.

It is well known that UV rays in sun light can be very damaging to your skin. Of course excessive sun exposure can lead to skin cancer and this can in turn can lead to death, however not so many people are aware that excessive sun exposure also speeds up the effects of ageing on your skin. This is what is known as photo aging.

There's some simple things you can do to prevent excessive skin sun damage and improve your regime of face skin care. It's easy to reduce your exposure to the sun by wearing a long sleeved shirt and a hat and staying out of direct sun during the summer in the middle of the day. But none of these is a complete solution to skin sun damage. For example it's still entirely possible to get your face burned underneath a hat from reflection off water.

Then of course there are sunscreens to help prevent skin sun damage. However it is now becoming more widely known that many sunscreens do not offer full protection from the different ultraviolet rays produced by the sun, in particular those can lead to serious skin sun damage problems such as cancer.

There are natural sunscreens available. Many of these are sourced from plants and will help naturally protect your skin from burning by acting as a natural sunscreen. However these can not only protect your skin from UV rays but, according to recent research, actually help reverse some photo-aging effects.

You may have heard of lycopene. It comes from tomatoes and modern science is starting to show that increasing your intake of lycopene may well have some very beneficial health effects. For example there is now evidence that more lycopene in your diet can help prevent prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women. And there is also evidence that lycopene can help reverse the effects of photo-aging thereby reversing the effects of sun damage to skin.

Lycopene is not the only natural sunscreen offering benefits to your skin. There are other natural ingredients also offering similar benefits. Whilst you should not be relying on natural sunscreens alone to help protect your skin they are worthwhile to increase your UV resistance, and it does seem from the science that these ingredients can help reverse photo-aging.

And it's not just lycopene that offers these benefits to your skin. There are other natural ingredients from plants that are also, according to the studies, likely to offer similar benefits. Whilst it is probably inadequate to rely on natural sunscreens to prevent sunburn on their own, there is certainly evidence that they will increase your level of natural protection and also start to reverse the effects of photo-aging.

An example is a new omega 3 supplement recently introduced to the market which includes lycopene as an active ingredient as well as other ingredients to increase your skin's natural resistance to sunburn and to help reverse the effects of photo-aging. And of course omega 3 essential fatty acids are themselves known to be of a very similar chemical make up to the oil that is naturally produced in your skin and for this reason Omega3 fats are also very good to improved skin health.

If you're interested in high quality skin care you need to understand the damaging effects of excessive exposure to sunlight, and that there are ways to help prevent this and also to reverse the effects of skin sun damage.

And you also should be aware that new products are slowly becoming available as science finds out more and more about how to keep their skin healthy and looking good using natural ingredients such as lycopene to help prevent skin sun damage.
